Events
Summer Reading Program – The program
begins almost as soon as school is out for the summer and
runs for eight weeks. Children are encouraged to “keep
reading” throughout the summer. Prizes are awarded
at regular intervals, ranging from pens and pencils to the
final prize of a ticket to Timberlake Playhouse.
Family Reading Night – This event,
held in conjunction with the Illinois State Library, is
held statewide on the third Thursday of November. Families
come to the library for games, stories, and treats to celebrate
the fun of reading together.
National Library Week – The second
week in April has been designated as National Library Week
throughout the country and is a time to rediscover all the
advantages there are to having a local library. It is the
custom of Chadwick Public Library to award “fine and
overdue forgiveness” during the week.
Friends of Chadwick Library Book and Bake Sale
– Throughout the year, the Friends of Chadwick
Public Library hold a sale to raise money to fund various
programs for the library. In the past they have purchased
a refrigerator and meeting tables for the library and have
provided the matching funds for the Libri Books for Children
Grant.
Saturday Fun at the Library – Still
in the planning stages, the Board of Trustees, Friends of
the Library, and the staff are getting ready to launch an
hour-long event held each Saturday morning for children.
